Feminist Attack on Boys — Phyllis Schlafly

by Phyllis Schlafly

The feminist lobby has carried on a ten-year campaign to sell the false propaganda that girls are cheated all through the education system, Kindergarten through college. This campaign started in 1992 when the ultra-feminist American Association of University Women issued a report called “How Schools Shortchange Girls.” It claimed that research showed that teachers focus their attention on boys, neglect girls, and discourage girls from taking important math and science courses. This report was a lie that started real discrimination against boys and young men. This report was fully debunked by researcher Christina Hoff Sommers, who proved that feminist claims that girls are shortchanged in school are “riddled with errors” and not “published in peer-reviewed professional journals.”

Nevertheless, this phony report started a stream of taxpayer spending to deal with the non-existent problem. Now that college students are nearly 60% women, and women receive the majority of college degrees, colleges are having a difficult time trying to maintain a 50-50 gender ratio in their student bodies. The feminists have gone into action against men again. They persuaded the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to announce that it will investigate whether colleges illegally discriminate against women by admitting less qualified men.

Those who worry about the continuation of American exceptionalism are concerned because they know that women and men make different career choices after college. Women don’t take the risks necessary for business start-ups or for business ownership, or choose the social isolation of technical laboratories, in anywhere near the proportion of men.

A 50-50 male-female ratio in college is wanted by everyone except the feminists. Colleges should be told (by regulation or by statute) that a 50-50 male-female ratio is OK and just common sense.
