Global Warming Is Earth Worship — Phyllis Schlafly

by Phyllis Schlafly

Recently I told you how the distinguished president of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus, stated that global warming is not a matter of temperature or climate change, but is in fact a new religion. Some distinguished American scholars have now declared themselves in agreement with this analysis. For example, the well-known economics professor at George Mason University, Walter Williams, recently wrote this: “Manmade global warming is an Earth-worshiping religion. The essential feature of any religion is that its pronouncements must be accepted on faith as opposed to hard evidence. Questioning those pronouncements makes one a sinner.”

Professor Williams said that no one denies that the Earth’s temperature has changed. Millions of years ago, much of our planet was covered by ice, at some places up to a mile thick. Some scientists call that period “Snowball Earth.” Since our Earth is not covered by ice today, we must have already had some major and very helpful global warming. As Professor Williams commented, “I don’t know the cause of that warming, but I’ll wager that it was not caused by coal-fired generating plants, incandescent light bulbs, or SUVs driving up and down the highways.” Dr. Williams continued, “The very idea that mankind can make significant changes to the Earth has to be the height of arrogance.” Dr. Williams said, “If all 6 billion humans on Earth started jumping up and down at one time, do you think we’d change the Earth’s orbit or rotation? Do you think mankind can change the direction and timing of the ocean’s tides? Is there anything mankind can do to stop or start a tsunami or a hurricane?”

Professor Williams warned that the whole aim of a lot of politicians is to keep the people alarmed by scaring them with the menace of hobgoblins, all imaginary. “That’s the political goal of the global warmers.”
