Robert Welch: Defining the Isms

Liberty Letters Quote of the Day, Robert Welch

There are many stages of welfarism, socialism, and collectivism in general, but communism is the ultimate state of them all, and they all lead inevitably in that direction. In this final stage, communism, you have a society in which class distinctions are greater than in any other, but where position in these classes is determined by demagogic political skill and ruthless cunning. You have a society in which all those traits which have helped to make man civilized, and which our multiple faiths have classified as virtues, are now discarded as vices — while exactly their opposites are glorified. And you have a society in which every fault of government that we have discussed … is held to be a benefit and a desirable part of the framework of life.

The Liberty Letters are compiled, edited (with occasional commentary) by The Moral Liberal, editor in chief, Steve Farrell.

Notice: We encourage our writers & readers to focus their comments on principles & issues (pro and con) rather than on personal character attacks or party against party politics; and to point to solutions where possible. Ugly, emotional comments (especially profanity) are discouraged, will be edited or removed, and may lead to the permanent removal of its author from our community of friends. As a private enterprise we claim the right of offering something unique in politics. Please help us keep it that way. If you feel any writer or community member is consistently violating this standard, please let me know. -- Best to you, Steve Farrell, Editor In Chief
