Obama Administration Likes U.N. Gun Treaty — T.F. Stern

By T.F. Stern,

Bet you hadn’t heard how the Obama administration intends on sidestepping the 2nd Amendment when this past Wednesday Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced her support for the U.N. small arms treaty, reversing the previous position of the United States under the Bush Administration. All I’ve heard was how BP’s oil was going to destroy the Florida Keys as it meandered its way out of the Gulf of Mexico, a steady assault on Arizona’s border legislation, Elena Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme Court or how a Suni Muslim won the Miss America pageant. All these stories are newsworthy and deserve a nod; but why wasn’t Hillary’s signing off on a treaty with the U.N. mentioned, a treaty that will eventually lead to total disarmament of civilians?

“Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments.”

I learned of this treaty signing through an ‘email forward’; you know, that medium which overloads the average person with too much information as Obama has warned . It would be a mistake to rely on the ‘drive by media’, as they have come to be called, since they seem to be in the back pocket of Obama; reporting only stories which have been approved for general release.

“Speaking at Hampton University in Virginia, the president raised alarms when he said “information becomes a distraction, a diversion” that is putting “pressure on our country and on our democracy.’”

It has been determined by the Obama administration that the citizenry might be better off not knowing about the U.N. treaty signing. It might be more than our little minds can take; show them some more pictures of water foul covered with slime or plumes of oil spewing from 5,000 feet below the surface of the Gulf; but for heaven’s sake don’t mention anything about taking away guns; American’s take offense to the very thought.

The first step to taking away private ownership of guns has been taken. In a few short years the next step, registration of all guns; followed by a period of time when citizens will be asked to turn in their guns; all this to make the world a safer place. The final step is confiscation of guns not previously relinquished voluntarily. A citizenry without guns is the easiest to control.

“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed – unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” — James Madison, The Federalist Papers

Obama has been a steady advocate of Americans joining with the rest of the world, our exceptional nation being something to be ashamed of. Obama apologized for our military forces being superior; he apologized for all our past transgressions and has bowed to heads of state in several countries. He would now have us bow, as a nation, to the U.N. as we uneventfully turn over our God given right to bear arms.

    As an after thought:

Our Senate lacks authority to sign the U.N. Small Arms Treaty because in doing so they would have to violate their oath of office, to uphold the constitution of the United States. As servants of the people, employed and authorized to act for the people; our Senate can only act within the powers granted them through our constitution and no further. They cannot surpass those powers authorized by the people or they would cease to be servants of the people.

“The important thing to keep in mind is that the people who have created their government can give to that government only such powers as they, themselves, have in the first place. Obviously, they cannot give that which they do not possess.” Ezra Taft Benson – The Proper Role of Government

I sure hope this isn’t true. Does anyone have any details on this? When, where, and how come no-one on TV has said said anything about it. I sure hope not, this will cause a BIG problem.

  • Pingback: Clinton SIGNS UN small arms treaty! :

  • http://www.tfsternsrantings.blogspot.com T F Stern

    Chuck,

Thanks for recording your skepticism. I share your concern on a variety of levels. I had been following the UN Small Arms Treaty since last year when the Obama administration did an about face and decided to support the treaty. At the time there was not a finalized piece of work to review; only the stated desire to eventually ban the sale of small arms, have citizens turn in what small arms were already out there and eventually confiscate any remaining small arms, all in the name of safety and security.

This past week I was notified by email to check on the treaty’s progress and was lead to the linked site which appeared in the first paragraph of my article. It stated that Hillary Clinton HAD signed the treaty; however, there hasn’t been the slightest mention of such a signing on any of the talk shows or other major news outlets. This may be good news, Hillary may not have signed the treaty and the original link was based on rumor rather than fact or worse, Hillary has signed the treaty and it is being kept quiet intentionally.

My trust level for the Obama administration is in the toilet and Obama has stated that the US will sign the Small Arms Treaty once it is formalized. The fact that the Senate is nothing more than a rubber stamp for Obama and the agenda to strip the validity of our constitution does not set my mind at ease either.

It appears, according to the following Reuters story, that Clinton pledged support for the Treaty, which was a reversal of U.S. policy, but that a ways away from a treaty signing. According to Reuters preparatory meetings will be held in 2010/11 and then there will be a conference to negotiate the treaty in 2012. Clinton also called, according to this story, the need for a consensus, and thus the ability of one nation to veto the thing. The trouble is, why are we even recognizing the authority of this body over our sovereignty and any body over the most fundamental of all rights, the right to self-defense, that very right that brings about the need for governments in the first place?

This will never happen, the American people will not stand for it.We need to peacefully remove the u.n. from the u.s.,build a constitutional library.

solgreatman, The way it will happen is incrementally, the first step is to ban the sale of assault rifles via the UN treaty to third world nations under the guise that they are being sold to war lords or oppressive madmen. If the public doesn’t react to that lie the next step is to stop the sale of ammunition for weapons under the same basic rule, keep war lords and crazy folks from being able to kill. Eventually the treaty will show more layers which had been hidden from view, the next layer keeps weapons from being sold to anyone who didn’t serve in the military or isn’t a retired police officer because, their logic will insist that only properly trained professional types are qualified to own or operate weapons. You can see how the UN treaty will be put into play if we sign onto any part and let it get a foot hold. I agree, we must stop it in its infancy.

The executive branch cannot enter into any treaty without a 2/3 majority of the Senate, and even if they did manipulate their way around those rules, as someone else already said they cannot enter into a treaty taking rights away granted by the constitution and upheld by the Supreme court over and over. We will not allow this to happen. The first step is to go to the polls in November and vote against every liberal on the ballot, regardless of party. It is time to take our country back from the bleeding heart bs scumbags! We outnumber them by a very large number. They have just been better organized than we have for the few decades. Much of that is due to the liberal media. It is time to boycott all liberal news media outlets. We could starve them to death by November if we had a concerted effort. the print media is already broke. I would not take that big an effort to stop NBC, CBS, and ABC. Just don’t watch their filth.

From Steve Farrell: You are right about the 2/3rds rule, however, it was George W. Bush who signed into law the Unconstitutional fasttrack legislation — first introduced by progressive Third Wayer Newt Gingrich — that permits a treaty to be reclassified as not a treaty but a “trade arrangement,” and as such, be passed by an up/down 51 percent majority, and after a by law, minimal debate, without any requirement to see anything but an executive summary of the “arrangement.” Thus a stark reminder that the enemies of our Constitution are not just Democrats, but Establishment Republicans. The justification for such an unConstitutional and dangerous measure, we are in a high tech world that requires rapid change, the sort of rapid change that is totally incompatable with the “gridlock” of checks and balances, and such outrageous ideas as 2/3rd votes in the Senate. One standard Tea Party conservatives ought to consider in sorting out the remaining “moderates” from the party would be to dig up how each of the remaining Republican House and Senate members voted on Fast Track.

      Thanks for your comments,
      Best, Steve

        From Steve Farrell:

I should add that our Supreme Court in the past couple of weeks quoted international court decisions to justify their decision.

My personal feeling, though we need to fight on the federal level for a return to Constitutional limits, the easier and more logical approach will be at the state, county, and township level. It must begin by getting all of them to stop taking federal money (so that they can avoid the strings and the jurisdiction that the Supreme Court says such federal monies justify) and then they must work on reasserting the tenth amendment. In the meantime, other efforts could include repealing the 17th Amendment, making the Senate again accountable to State Legislatures. And a consistent effort on the national level to curtail the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court as per the right of Congress in the Constitution. Kicking the U.N. out of the U.S. needs to become a priority as well, and also, rejecting all regional arrangements under the U.N. Charter and accountable to the Security Council. That includes, NAFTA, GATT, WTO, NATO, etc. Foreign policy needs to return to unilateral, off the stage, diplomacy, with an America First Attitude. Just a few thoughts. Best, Steve
