If any proof that Democrat’s panic and desperation over the prospects of losing their control over Capitol Hill this coming November is required you need only look at their reaction to Dr. Rand Paul’s landslide victory in the Kentucky primary election.
Seen as a harbinger of things to come, Dr. Paul’s crushing defeat of a more or less moderate Republican opponent, showed the power of the nation’s discontent with the current state of the Union under the confused leadership of Barack Obama and his feckless administration.
The impression created by Dr. Paul’s triumph was the realization that the Tea Party is what it claims to be, a widespread movement not only vehemently opposed to the works and pomps of the Obama presidency but one determined to use its hefty clout at the polls. It demonstrated that clout in the Kentucky primary by defeating the GOP establishment and choosing a candidate who embraced their philosophy of a limited federal government as defined in the U.S. Constitution.
One needs to be blind to fail to see what is at work here. The likes of the Rand Paul movement scares to daylights out of the national Democratic establishment and they are determined to strangle it in its Kentucky crib before it can grow into a national nightmare that strips them of control of the United States Congress this year, and of the presidency two years hence.
This is standard practice for the liberal-dominated national Democratic party. Any Republican such as former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin or in this instance, Rand Paul who appears to excite the electorate must be dealt with harshly and with immediacy – a simple matter for a party that all but owns the national media lock, stock and barrel.
In his New York Times column, the ever-so-dainty former drama critic Frank Rich had the shakes over Dr. Paul’s landslide victory and the outrage of the Tea Partiers which seems to scare the pants off him.
Wrote Rich “If the Democrats can’t muster their own compelling response to the populist rage out there, “Randslide” may reside in our political vocabulary long after “Arlen Specter” is leaving “Jeopardy” contestants stumped.”
He’s right. And that’s why we see the onslaught against the Kentucky eye surgeon – an onslaught based on a deliberate mischaracterization of Dr. Paul’s discomfort with one aspect of the 1964 Civil Rights law – one that he fully supports (but was unable to when it was enacted, he being a mere two-year-old at the time.)
He got mousetrapped by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow when he mentioned that he doubted the constitutionality of government telling businesses who they must accept as customers. Wham- there he goes opposing the 1664 Civil Rights law. He’s a racist!
The drumbeat begins. Dr. Paul becomes the target of choice among the Democratic Left (is there a Democratic right?. If so it’s an underground movement -deeply underground,)
According to Sarah Palin, Dr. Paul’s predecessor as the Democrat’s designated enemy of Democracy and the people, “Seeing kind of that libertarian streak of his — that is what we need to balance out the leftist liberal overreach of government that’s in power right now. Rand’s gonna be great, plus on social issues, right there; he’s got some great positions.”
That’s why the Democrats insist Dr. Paul has got to go. And that’s why they are picking him as their main target. If they get their way when the voters see a Republican candidate they’ll only see the image they created of Rand Paul.
