Libyan rebels signed a contract with Qatar to export oil from newly acquired territory, according to the latest war news (or kinetic military action news). Seriously!
Qatar sent one jet to make pirouettes over Libya and already is signing oil contracts. This is the latest kinesis of the Odyssey Dawn military humanitarian action. We have to save the rebels from being killed. After all, dead rebels cannot sign oil contracts. It is not clear from the news where the oil will be refined, but may be for the sake of Global Warming Qatar should look for obtaining oil from places closer to home since it is located in the Persian Gulf anyway.
At the meantime, Barack Obama is having kinetic action, writing another speech for his post presidential ITunes collection.
After receiving advice from the Pentagon and the US State Department on the proper way to act in Libya, President Obama let the United Nations make the final decision. Nothing says ‘apple pie’ like a Ban Ki-moon opinion on American interests.
US Congress will try to pretend it is still relevant by having series of votes on Libya. The honest believer in socialism and world peace Denis Kucinich will try to defund the kinetic military action. I kind of wish he succeeds. It is not probable, but it is not impossible.
Thing may become interesting if the left manages to stick to their anti-war principles and the tea-party right stands for the promise that US will no longer be the world policeman. In this case, we may have a coalition that can actually kinetically kick the President, his advisers, the Arab League and the United Nations behind with the force of the American people.
Theoretically ‘We the People’ send our representatives to Congress and, if they stay true to what they promise during the campaign, the US involvement in Libya can stop immediately. In the real world the electable dummies are just fine with the chance not to go on record on another war resolution.
Anti-war left and the libertarian right should be against the US policing Libya while unidentified rebels steal the country’s oil. May be this is why President Obama did not ask the Congress for permission to launch bombs into kinetic military action. The leadership may be afraid there are enough decent people’s representatives who don’t want to flip-flop on their anti-war, anti-world-policing promises, like President Obama did himself.
In UK, for example, the politicians do not allow referendum on the continuing membership of the country in the European Union: they are afraid people would vote OUT. President Obama is afraid to ask Congress for kinetic action on Libya, because of possibility the people’s representatives heard from their constituency and may vote ‘against’.
This is just wishful thinking. In practice, of course, the electable dummies in Congress will be provided with talking points to recite in public while voting in line with the official doctrine of ‘making it up in a fly, kinetically, so to speak’.
