Federalist 58 by James Madison. 1. Under the proposed Constitution whose interests were represented by the U.S. Senate? Is it so today? If not, how might it be remedied & by what means? 2. How did the Constitution provide for updating representation in Congress? 3. Madison credits the U.S Constitution with assigning the greatest power, that of the “purse strings” to the U.S. House. In your opinion, how might the House assert that power to reduce the size & cost of government today? 4. Explain in your own words Madison’s warning against too many men serving in the House. How might his warning be applied today as calls abound for a more direct democracy & for scrapping the electoral college system? 5. Is democracy the form of government our Founders gave us or was it a republican form? Explain the difference.

To bee or not to bee

To bee or not to bee

Reports of honeybees rapidly disappearing are greatly exaggerated. BY PAUL DRIESSEN Activist groups continue to promote scary stories that honeybees are rapidly disappearing, dying off at “mysteriously high rates,” potentially affecting one-third of our food crops and causing global food shortages. Time magazine says readers need to [...]

Woods bison, muskeg swamps and Canadian oil sands prove energy and wildlife coexist By Dennis T. Avery The last woods bison in the United States was apparently shot by a hunter in West Virginia around 1835. For many decades, the woods bison was presumed extinct – until an airplane spotted an isolated herd in the muskeg swamps north of [...]

Ethanol and Corn: The Power of a Really Bad Idea

Ethanol and Corn: The Power of a Really Bad Idea

By Alan Caruba It took some eighty years for Communism to fail in the former Soviet Union. Along the way, millions were sent to gulags and millions more died from starvation and World War Two added to the death tolls. Spreading Communism like a religion, it had similar results in China and everywhere it has been adopted. It takes a long time [...]

Coincidences, Truth, and Propaganda

Coincidences, Truth, and Propaganda

BY ALAN CARUBA On April 18th I received an email from the Sierra Club announcing that “We’re endorsing President Obama for reelection. We’ve made too much progress over the past four years to give it all back to Big Polluters.” Among the Sierra Club’s many projects to plunge the nation back to the golden days of reading by candle [...]

The Environmental Terrorizing of Children

The Environmental Terrorizing of Children

BY ALAN CARUBA In many ways, the worst aspect of environmentalism is why Greens not only feel free to terrorize children with doomsday scenarios, but feel compelled to do so. I have been reviewing books for some fifty years and with the publication of Rachel Carson’s “Silent Spring” in 1962 and books such as Paul Ehrlich’s [...]

The Greens Think You’re Stupid

The Greens Think You’re Stupid

By Alan Caruba Every day EcoWatch.org sends me an email that features links to several articles on issues they regard as urgent and important. If I had no knowledge of science or much else, I would be spending my days in a state of panic and that would be just fine with the EcoWatch folks. In late February, one of the articles to which one [...]

Shiva, Destroyer of Worlds vs. The Stewards of the Darby

by Diane Alden The NewsMax Years #31 Still ON TARGET: August 18,  2000 It is called by many names, including sustained development, eminent domain, ecosystem management, biodiversity, or whatever term du jour collectivists are using at the moment. By whatever name it is called, however, it is still a pagan utopian dream rooted in the [...]

Environmentalists Clobber Texas

Environmentalists Clobber Texas

By Murray Rothbard, Mises.org We all know how the environmentalists, seemingly determined at all costs to save the spotted owl, delivered a crippling blow to the logging industry in the North west. But this slap at the economy may be trivial compared to what might happen to the lovely city of San Antonio, Texas, endangered by the deadly [...]

What Greens Really Believe

What Greens Really Believe

By Alan Caruba Earth Day was established in 1970 and millions of Americans and others around the world have been steadily brainwashed to embrace the impression that environmentalism is about protecting the Earth, but when Greens talk among themselves, it is a very different story and a frightening one at that. The massive propaganda program [...]
