Federalist 58 by James Madison. 1. Under the proposed Constitution whose interests were represented by the U.S. Senate? Is it so today? If not, how might it be remedied & by what means? 2. How did the Constitution provide for updating representation in Congress? 3. Madison credits the U.S Constitution with assigning the greatest power, that of the “purse strings” to the U.S. House. In your opinion, how might the House assert that power to reduce the size & cost of government today? 4. Explain in your own words Madison’s warning against too many men serving in the House. How might his warning be applied today as calls abound for a more direct democracy & for scrapping the electoral college system? 5. Is democracy the form of government our Founders gave us or was it a republican form? Explain the difference.

The Obama Administration’s Slow-Motion Surrender to Jihad

The Obama Administration’s Slow-Motion Surrender to Jihad

DAVID FRENCH, ACLJ If there’s one political silver lining for the Obama administration in the ongoing firestorm over handing the Taliban a substantial victory to retrieve a probable American deserter, it’s that the pundit class has been all but ignoring the supreme foolishness of administration policy in Palestine. Is the State Department [...]

Lawmaker: Obama-Clinton State Department “Misled Congress” Downplaying Boko Haram Danger

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ A key Senator is alleging that the Clinton State Department “mislead Congress” about the impending danger of Boko Haram and the State Department’s inability (read: unwillingness) to label the radical jihadist group a terrorist organization years ago. Senator Vitter (LA) has written Secretary of State Kerry a [...]

The Difference Between Rescue and Ransom

The Difference Between Rescue and Ransom

DAVID FRENCH, ACLJ One of the most extraordinary and costly rescues in American history occurred in April 1972, after Iceal “Gene” Hambleton’s electronics-warfare plane (call sign “Bat 21”) was shot down at the onset of the North Vietnamese Army’s Easter offensive. When he had been stuck behind enemy lines for more than a week, the [...]

Americans the Obama Administration Will Leave Behind

Americans the Obama Administration Will Leave Behind

DAVID FRENCH, ACLJ It sickens me that the Obama administration has been justifying ransoming terrorist leaders for a probable deserter by reciting the creed that America never leaves a man behind. The Obama administration frequently leaves men (and even children) to suffer and die, with minimal apparent effort on their behalf. A partial [...]

Don’t Give Away the Internet

Don’t Give Away the Internet

BY PHYLISS SCHLAFLY Giving away the Internet is a key part of Barack Obama’s plan to diminish America’s power and prestige in the world. He wants to spread around world power to our enemies as well as to our friends, just as he seeks to spread the wealth around in our country. Obama’s defenders argue that his action is just part of a plan [...]

A Matter of Honor: Why So Many Soldiers Are Angry at the Bergdahl Deal

A Matter of Honor: Why So Many Soldiers Are Angry at the Bergdahl Deal

DAVID FRENCH, ACLJ I’ve spent the last two weeks on vacation — the first real family vacation since shortly after I returned home from Iraq in 2008 — and I tried as much as I could to truly “unplug.” When the Bergdahl deal was announced, however, I failed utterly. The story infuriated me. Other writers at NRO have articulated the [...]

The Four Biggest Delusions of Obama’s West Point Speech

The Four Biggest Delusions of Obama’s West Point Speech

Daniel Kochis, HERITAGE FOUNDATION President Obama’s speech last week to graduates of West Point was supposed to highlight the success of the administration’s foreign policy and lay out a vision of American engagement for the remainder of the president’s time in office. Success at this proved hard to come by. As Heritage’s Nile [...]

America Must Keep Control of the Internet

America Must Keep Control of the Internet

BY PHYLISS SCHLAFLY American control of the Internet has kept the Web free, not only for us, but for the entire world. And it’s up to us to keep it that way. As Ronald Reagan said during the great Panama Canal controversy in the 1970s, “We bought it. We built it. We paid for it. We intend to keep it.” Unfortunately, the U.S. Senate [...]

Executive Action on Immigration

Executive Action on Immigration

ALEX NOWRASTEH, CATO President Obama will likely take some executive action this fall to reduce deportations or legalize some unauthorized immigrants. He recently ordered Jeh Johnson, Secretary of Homeland Security, to delay the release of a review of current deportation policy until after the summer.  A White House official revealed [...]

The GOP Must Embrace Immigration Reform

The GOP Must Embrace Immigration Reform

BY ALAN CARUBA I was fortunate to know both sets of grandparents as a child. My Father’s parents came from northern Italy and met here. His first language was Italian because they knew he could learn English by virtue of growing up here. My Mother’s parents immigrated from Russia and Austria, also meeting here, marrying, and having five [...]
