Federalist 62. Madison reminds us that the election of U.S. Senators by their respective state legislatures secured state rights or authority. In your opinion, how might a return to this vital constitutional principle become a key element in empowering a push back against federal intrusion into powers our heaven inspired Constitution clearly retained as jurisdictionally belonging to state & local governments, to families & individuals, to private businesses, churches, & charities?

My Child Is Not Common

My Child Is Not Common

BY PHYLISS SCHLAFLY “My Child Is Not Common” are the words on the attention-getting signs carried by a group of white and African-American mothers protesting the adoption of the aggressively promoted Common Core standards. Common Core is scheduled to take over the testing of all U.S. kids, pre-K to 12, but parents are saying “no way” in [...]

Where is the rehabilitation for “racists”?

Where is the rehabilitation for “racists”?

BY SELWYN DUKE For decades liberals have lobbied against punishment and for rehabilitation. The argument was that a mugger or murderer was just a victim of his environment, someone caught in the crosshairs of bad nurturing and neighborhood. Accountability is unwarranted because the person bears no responsibility: he knew not what he did. And so [...]

Immigration Lessons from the Alps

Immigration Lessons from the Alps

BY PHYLISS SCHLAFLY This year, the people of Switzerland voted to put a cap on the number of foreigners allowed to immigrate to and work in Switzerland. The Swiss accomplished this by a referendum of the people, and the success of that referendum sent two powerful messages: first, that maintaining a Swiss national identity is important to the [...]

Manufacturing Scientific Consensus—In Four Easy Steps!

DAVID FRENCH, ACLJ Among the many virtues of aggressive litigation — in addition, of course, to the fundamental goal of obtaining justice for your clients — is the ability to gain knowledge. Young Men Think Old Men Are Fools

Young Men Think Old Men Are Fools

LIBERTY LETTERS WITH STEVE FARRELL George Chapman observed, in 1605, “Young men think old men are fools.” So do American progressives young and old. They are the sort to daily spit into the wind of “all past historical experience” demanding the abandonment of everything American—especially our “horse and buggy” Constitution and [...]

China Overtaking America

China Overtaking America

BY PHYLISS SCHLAFLY Financial Times sent shock waves through the U.S. business community last week when headlines announced that China will overtake the United States as the “world’s leading economic power this year,” a title we’ve held since we passed England in 1872. The previous date for this anticipated event was 2019. The grim [...]

The Worst Week for Abortion

The Worst Week for Abortion

BY PHYLISS SCHLAFLY Oh, how the tide has turned against abortion. There were three stunning setbacks to the pro-abortion movement in just one week this year. The first came during oral argument in the Hobby Lobby case before the U.S. Supreme Court. The left wing of the Court was having a field day by predicting a parade of horribles if Hobby [...]

Obama’s Waivers and Exemptions

Obama’s Waivers and Exemptions

BY PHYLISS SCHLAFLY Obama's game plan to dodge the bullet about Obamacare is to announce an exemption or a waiver or a deadline change almost every week. The purpose seems to be to postpone as many obnoxious deadlines as possible to take effect after this year's November election. The scholar Grace-Marie Turner of the Galen Institute reports [...]

Obamacare Has Got To Go

Obamacare Has Got To Go

BY PHYLISS SCHLAFLY The surprise victory of Republican David Jolly this year for a congressional seat in Florida has given new life to voters who had been depressed about the power of the Obama campaign machine. Even more surprising to the media was that ObamaCare turned out to be the winning issue for Republicans. The Democratic congressional [...]

The Real Class Warfare In America Today

The Real Class Warfare In America Today

MARK W. HENDRICKSON class warfare(Photo credit: Hollywata) Those who believe in individual rights and liberty always have tended to reject the Marxian paradigm that pits the rich against the poor. Today, we hear all about this alleged class warfare: President Obama harps on income inequality. So does the IMF . French economist Thomas [...]
