Federalist 58 by James Madison. 1. Under the proposed Constitution whose interests were represented by the U.S. Senate? Is it so today? If not, how might it be remedied & by what means? 2. How did the Constitution provide for updating representation in Congress? 3. Madison credits the U.S Constitution with assigning the greatest power, that of the “purse strings” to the U.S. House. In your opinion, how might the House assert that power to reduce the size & cost of government today? 4. Explain in your own words Madison’s warning against too many men serving in the House. How might his warning be applied today as calls abound for a more direct democracy & for scrapping the electoral college system? 5. Is democracy the form of government our Founders gave us or was it a republican form? Explain the difference.

EPA Pesticide Bans Threaten You and the Economy

EPA Pesticide Bans Threaten You and the Economy

BY ALAN CARUBA When Rachel Carson’s book, “Silent Spring”, was published, filled with totally false claims about DDT, the Environmental Protection Agency looked it over and concluded she had used manipulated data. They concluded that DDT should not be banned, but its first administrator, William Ruckleshaus, overruled the agency and [...]

Ferguson’s Old Grievances

Ferguson’s Old Grievances

BY ALAN CARUBA Ferguson, Missouri and its re-run of 1950s civil rights grievances has now achieved national stature with the dispatch of our black Attorney General, Eric Holder, by our black President, Barack Obama, to address the unhappiness of blacks in the community over the shooting of a 6’4”, nearly 300 pound, black teenager, Michael [...]

Genocide! A Christian Holocaust

Genocide! A Christian Holocaust

BY ALAN CARUBA In the last century and now this one, I have lived long enough to have been alive when the Nazis killed six million European Jews and another five million other “enemies of the state” that included unionists, homosexuals, Seventh Day Adventists, and any others that ran afoul of that hateful and hate-filled regime. There [...]

Greens are the Enemies of Energy

Greens are the Enemies of Energy

BY ALAN CARUBA Here in America and elsewhere around the world, Greens continue to war against any energy other than the “renewable” kind, wind and solar, that is more costly and next to useless. Only coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear keeps the modern and developing world functioning and growing. The most publicized aspect is [...]

Victim Mentality Afflicts Black Americans

Victim Mentality Afflicts Black Americans

BY ALAN CARUBA Well, we now have another black riot to put in the books. This one, like the others, involve the death of a black American by a white police officer, but buried in the stories about the Ferguson, Missouri riot is the fact that there was an altercation between Michael Brown and the officer who shot him after having sustained an [...]

Jimmy Carter’s Love for Terrorists

Jimmy Carter’s Love for Terrorists

BY ALAN CARUBA Jimmy Carter was elected President for one reason—Richard M. Nixon. The feeling in the nation was that the born-again Sunday school teacher and Georgia Governor was the perfect antithesis of the President who was forced to resign over the Watergate scandal. He defeated Gerald Ford, Nixon’s Vice President who was largely [...]

Iraq is an American War

Iraq is an American War

BY ALAN CARUBA Like many Americans I advocated ending our participation in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. I was wrong. Being war-weary is no excuse for not realizing that we are in a very long war with the enemies of civilization and reluctant to being fully engaged in it. On Monday, President Obama had to take a break from his Martha’s [...]

Please, Mr. President, Stay on Vacation

Please, Mr. President, Stay on Vacation

BY ALAN CARUBA When the President spent three of a recent week’s five working days fund raising for the Democratic Party people, even the press took notice. On August 9 he began a two-week vacation in a Martha’s Vineyard mansion and I’d like to suggest that he just stay on vacation for the remainder of his second term. I grant you that [...]

Spectacularly Wrong

Spectacularly Wrong

BY ALAN CARUBA “A greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country: assalaamu alaykum” The speaker had what one might imagine, given his background, a better insight into Islam, Muslims, and the Middle East than others who had preceded him. He said he was seeking “a new beginning” that was “based on mutual interests and [...]

A Remarkable 37th President

A Remarkable 37th President

BY ALAN CARUBA Forty years ago, on August 9, 1974, Richard Nixon resigned the office of President; the first and only President to do so. I was just into my thirties in 1968, the year Richard Nixon was elected the 37th President of the United States. What I recall most of that year was the way the Chicago police, after enduring an onslaught [...]
