Federalist 58 by James Madison. 1. Under the proposed Constitution whose interests were represented by the U.S. Senate? Is it so today? If not, how might it be remedied & by what means? 2. How did the Constitution provide for updating representation in Congress? 3. Madison credits the U.S Constitution with assigning the greatest power, that of the “purse strings” to the U.S. House. In your opinion, how might the House assert that power to reduce the size & cost of government today? 4. Explain in your own words Madison’s warning against too many men serving in the House. How might his warning be applied today as calls abound for a more direct democracy & for scrapping the electoral college system? 5. Is democracy the form of government our Founders gave us or was it a republican form? Explain the difference.

International Climate Skeptics Gather in Las Vegas

International Climate Skeptics Gather in Las Vegas

BY ALAN CARUBA From July 7 to 9, the ninth International Conference on Climate Change will convene in Las Vegas in a dramatic demonstration that “global warming” was a huge hoax and the claims that “climate change” is responsible for everything are a continuation of that fraud. As a policy advisor to The Heartland Institute, a [...]

What Has Happened to Protests in America?

What Has Happened to Protests in America?

BY ALAN CARUBA The U.S. began with protests that evolved into a full scale rebellion we call the Revolution. Throughout our history, there have been many protests and those against slavery evolved into the Civil War. War—whether for or against it—has been a prime generator of protests. On the evenings of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday [...]

For Too Many, It’s a Very Unhappy Fourth of July

For Too Many, It’s a Very Unhappy Fourth of July

BY ALAN CARUBA As Americans pause to celebrate the 238th signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, it well may be one of the saddest Fourth’s in decades. The six and a half years of the Obama regime has failed to unleash the nation’s capacity to recover from the 2008 financial crisis and has left the nation saddled in debt and [...]

When the World Goes Crazy it First Kills Jews

When the World Goes Crazy it First Kills Jews

BY ALAN CARUBA Consider this, if there had been a state of Israel in the 1930s, many more European Jews would have been able to escape the fate that consumed six million of them during the Nazi Holocaust during World War II. That there is an Israel today explains when French and Ukrainian Jews are leaving their native countries and making [...]

Obama Continues his Attack on U.S. Energy

Obama Continues his Attack on U.S. Energy

BY ALAN CARUBA The delay of the Keystone XL pipeline is a perfect example of the way President Obama and his administration has engaged in, not just a war on coal, but on all forms of energy the nation has and needs. Even his State Department admits there is no reason to refuse its construction and, as turmoil affects the Middle East, there is [...]

What Economic Recovery?

What Economic Recovery?

BY ALAN CARUBA You have to know that the Obama administration has run out of excuses for destroying the U.S. economy when it starts to blame it on the weather. According to the Commerce Department, the economy based on its Gross domestic product--the value of its goods and services--fell at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 2.9% in the [...]

James Madison: The Indispensible Founder

James Madison: The Indispensible Founder

BY ALAN CARUBA “I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents. … If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a [...]

The Obama Presidency Implodes

The Obama Presidency Implodes

BY ALAN CARUBA The first time I heard the term “military advisors” it was being used by John F. Kennedy and they were being sent to South Vietnam. A strong anti-communist, in 1961 Kennedy approved financing an increase in the size of the South Vietnamese army from 150,000 to 170,000 along with sending a thousand U.S. military advisors to [...]

States Push Back Against Common Core in Their Schools

States Push Back Against Common Core in Their Schools

BY ALAN CARUBA It’s vacation time for the nation’s school kids and, while they play, states are beginning to push back against the latest effort of the federal government to exert total control over the nation’s schools; Common Core, whose curriculum standards and content rapidly revealed it to be a nightmare. As I frequently note, the [...]

Fifty Years Later, Being Black in America

Fifty Years Later, Being Black in America

BY ALAN CARUBA Fifty years ago, 1964, the civil rights movement that had begun in the 1950s achieved its goal with the Civil Rights Act and a year later with the Voting Rights Act. A remarkable book, “Please Stop Helping Us: How Liberals Make It Harder for Blacks to Succeed”, by Jason L. Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal’s [...]
