Federalist 58 by James Madison. 1. Under the proposed Constitution whose interests were represented by the U.S. Senate? Is it so today? If not, how might it be remedied & by what means? 2. How did the Constitution provide for updating representation in Congress? 3. Madison credits the U.S Constitution with assigning the greatest power, that of the “purse strings” to the U.S. House. In your opinion, how might the House assert that power to reduce the size & cost of government today? 4. Explain in your own words Madison’s warning against too many men serving in the House. How might his warning be applied today as calls abound for a more direct democracy & for scrapping the electoral college system? 5. Is democracy the form of government our Founders gave us or was it a republican form? Explain the difference.

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ In the first post-Hobby Lobby decision issued by an appellate court, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals has granted an injunction, halting the HHS Mandate, to a nonprofit religious organization. The key aspect of this new decision is that the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision was confined to for-profit businesses; [...]

IRS “Lost” More Emails – Obama Administration Thinks You Won’t Notice the Cover-Up

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ After revealing in a Friday news dump that it “lost” former top IRS official Lois Lerner’s emails, the IRS now says that it has “lost” emails from at least six more IRS officials. What’s next, not being able to produce any more emails related to the targeting? Unbelievable doesn’t even begin to describe [...]

Lawmaker: Obama-Clinton State Department “Misled Congress” Downplaying Boko Haram Danger

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ A key Senator is alleging that the Clinton State Department “mislead Congress” about the impending danger of Boko Haram and the State Department’s inability (read: unwillingness) to label the radical jihadist group a terrorist organization years ago. Senator Vitter (LA) has written Secretary of State Kerry a [...]

Is the Obama State Department Following Shariah Law Over U.S. Law in Refusing to Acknowledge Meriam’s Kids’ Citizenship?

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ The Obama Administration’s State Department has been dragging its heels, refusing to acknowledge that the children of the woman on death row in Sudan for her Christian faith are U.S. citizens. Those two young American children – including a newborn infant – are imprisoned with their mother, Meriam Ibrahim.  Their [...]

OIG Report Alleges “Criminal Misconduct” and “Possible Wrongful Deaths” at VA

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for Veterans Affairs has just issued a scathing report confirming deadly allegations that VA hospitals have been hiding inordinately long and abusive wait times for our nation’s heroes to receive the medical care they deserve. The OIG report alleges “criminal misconduct” of [...]

Sudan: Torturing and Executing a Woman for Her Faith Is No Big Deal

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ The Embassy of Sudan has release an official public statement that torturing and executing a woman for her Christian faith isn’t “violating human rights.” Earlier this month a Sudanese judge sentenced Meriam Ibrahim to be flogged and executed for her Christian faith. She is currently on death row and just gave birth [...]

Will Children be Banned From Praying at Their Graduation?

Will Children be Banned From Praying at Their Graduation?

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ If angry atheists have their way, that’s exactly what will happen. The American Humanist Association, an angry atheist group that peruses the country for a small town to attack in its attempt to eviscerate faith from public life, has sued a Greenville, South Carolina school over a 5th Grade graduation ceremony. The [...]

More Lerner Emails, More Evidence of Washington Directed Targeting, Cover-Up

More Lerner Emails, More Evidence of Washington Directed Targeting, Cover-Up

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ New emails from Lois Lerner and other top IRS officials at the center of the targeting of conservative groups provide even more evidence that the IRS scandal was directed from Washington. It is becoming crystal clear that the targeting was not limited to rogue low-level Cincinnati employees as the Obama Administration is [...]

Can Your County Shut Down Home Bible Studies?

Can Your County Shut Down Home Bible Studies?

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ I never imagined when I agreed to host a Bible study in my home that such an action may one day be a violation of law. Yet that’s exactly what my very own Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is prepared to do right here in Virginia. A proposed county zoning ordinance would make it a violation to have more than a [...]

Prayer Reaffirmed at the Supreme Court: Town of Greece v. Galloway

Prayer Reaffirmed at the Supreme Court: Town of Greece v. Galloway

MATTHEW CLARK, ACLJ In a landmark decision today, the Supreme Court reaffirmed that prayer before legislative meetings is constitutional. In debunking one of the greatest myths in Establishment Clause jurisprudence, the Court held that not only is opening such meetings in prayer constitutional, it is not limited to nonsectarian (i.e. [...]
