Federalist 58 by James Madison. 1. Under the proposed Constitution whose interests were represented by the U.S. Senate? Is it so today? If not, how might it be remedied & by what means? 2. How did the Constitution provide for updating representation in Congress? 3. Madison credits the U.S Constitution with assigning the greatest power, that of the “purse strings” to the U.S. House. In your opinion, how might the House assert that power to reduce the size & cost of government today? 4. Explain in your own words Madison’s warning against too many men serving in the House. How might his warning be applied today as calls abound for a more direct democracy & for scrapping the electoral college system? 5. Is democracy the form of government our Founders gave us or was it a republican form? Explain the difference.

Who’s really waging the ‘war on science’?

Who’s really waging the ‘war on science’?

BY PAUL DRIESSEN ~When it comes to attacking climate scientists, the alarmist Left has the market cornered~ Left-leaning environmentalists, media and academics have long railed against the alleged conservative “war on science.” They augment this vitriol with substantial money, books, documentaries and conference sessions devoted to [...]

Killing marine life with ethanol

Killing marine life with ethanol

BY PAUL DRIESSEN ~Ethanol damages your cars, small engines, food budget – and kills Gulf of Mexico animals~ Ethanol and other biofuel mandates and subsidies got started when politicians bought into claims that we are rapidly depleting our petroleum, and fossil-fuel-driven global warming is boiling the planet. Hydraulic fracturing [...]

Greenpeace showcases its anti-human side

BY PAUL DRIESSEN ~Greenpeace activist confirms every negative story you’ve ever read about this activist group~ It was a surreal experience. As the Heartland Institute’s hugely successful Ninth International Conference on Climate Change ended, I agreed to let Greenpeace activist Connor Gibson interview me. I’d just given a [...]

BY PAUL DRIESSEN and LAWRENCE KOGAN ~FOIA request seeks hidden data and analyses that agency claims back up its climate rulings~ Can you imagine telling the IRS you don’t need to complete all their forms or provide records to back up your claim for a tax refund? Or saying your company’s assurances that its medical products are safe and [...]

BY PAUL DRIESSEN Two western state governors intend to get low carbon fuel standards, by legislation or decree Progressives believe in free speech, robust debate, sound science and economics, transparency, government by the people and especially compassion for the poor – except when they don’t. These days, their commitment to these [...]

Fixing our dictatorial EPA

Fixing our dictatorial EPA

BY PAUL DRIESSEN EPA, White House and activists must no longer deceive America and rule by executive fiat Last year, Congress enacted 72 new laws and federal agencies promulgated 3,659 new rules, imposing $1.86 trillion in annual regulatory compliance costs on American businesses and families. It’s hardly surprising that America’s economy [...]

Hollywood’s hydrocarbon hypocrisy

Hollywood’s hydrocarbon hypocrisy

BY PAUL DRIESSEN Anti-fracking fervor underscores dismissive attitudes toward working classes and poor families Several Hollywood elites were recently caught red-handed on videotape, agreeing to take money from a Middle Eastern oil sheikh for another anti-fracking movie. Their actions were shameful, but they felt no shame – only anger at [...]

Just assume we have a climate crisis

Just assume we have a climate crisis

BY PAUL DRIESSEN Impose job-killing policies on the assumption that humans are causing a CO2-driven cataclysm Climate modelers and disaster proponents remind me of the four guys who were marooned on an island, after their plane went down. The engineer began drawing plans for a boat; the lumberjack cut trees to build it; the pilot plotted a [...]

The loony anti-Keystone campaign

The loony anti-Keystone campaign

BY PAUL DRIESSEN It is the symbol of Big Green’s diehard opposition to hydrocarbons and modern living standards What is this incessant nonsense over Keystone XL? It’s a pipeline, for crying out loud. The United States already has 185,000 miles of liquid petroleum pipelines, 320,000 miles of natural gas transmission pipelines, and more [...]
